How to Commission a Bespoke Headboard: A Step-by-Step Guide
Share
Why Go Bespoke?
A bespoke headboard lets you choose exactly the size, fabric, and finish you want — rather than compromising on what's available off the shelf. It's the difference between a headboard that fits your room and one that defines it.
At Alma Design, every bespoke commission is handled personally. Here's exactly how the process works.
Step 1: Get in Touch
The first step is simply to contact us with your requirements. You don't need to have everything figured out at this stage — just a rough idea of the size you need and any fabrics you're considering. We'll take it from there.
If you'd like fabric samples before committing, we're happy to send them. Just ask.
Step 2: Confirm Your Specification
Once you've chosen your fabric and size, we'll confirm the full specification in writing — width, height, fabric, any finishing details — along with the price and lead time. For most bespoke orders, our lead time is 6 weeks from order confirmation.
Step 3: We Make It
Your headboard is handcrafted in our UK atelier by our small team of skilled makers. We build a solid timber frame, fit high-density foam padding, and upholster the piece by hand using traditional techniques. Every detail — from pattern placement to piping finish — is handled with care.
Step 4: Delivery
Once your headboard is complete and quality-checked, we'll arrange delivery with our designated delivery team. We'll be in touch to confirm a delivery date that works for you.
Step 5: Enjoy It
Your headboard arrives ready to wall-mount, with full fitting guidance included. Most customers find installation straightforward — but if you have any questions, we're always here to help.
